WHICH FSC SETUP IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
FSC offers different solutions.
It depends on…
whether you manufacture products yourself (also through outsourcing) or buy them finalized
whether they are labelled
whether you pass them on to a retailer/supply chain partner or sell them to end users yourself
In short, you will have to identify whether you need an FSC Promotional Licence or FSC Chain of Custody certification.
Understanding the Difference
FSC Chain of Custody (FSC CoC)
FSC Chain of Custody certification ensures that FSC-certified materials and products have been checked at every stage of processing so that customers purchasing products sold with FSC claims can be confident that they are genuinely FSC certified.
FSC Promotional Licence
If an organization buys FSC-labelled products from an FSC-certified supplier to use within the business (paper, packaging, instore decoration etc.) or sells them unchanged to the public (e.g. labelled garments, shoes etc.), a Promotional Licence allows an organization to use FSC trademarks promotionally.
Check if your suppliers are FSC certified
Step 2: Type in the name of your supplier
Step 3: Right-click and select Drill Through to view the details of your supplier’s certificate. You will want to verify that the factory/site you source from and the product types you buy from are included.
Step 1: Check the validity of your supplier’s FSC certificate.

All FSC Certificate Holders can be found in our public database. However, we have created an overview specific to suppliers in the textile and fashion industry.
This overview is offered completely free of charge and with no requirements attached. Reach out to fashion@fsc.org for more information.
